​When a hockey player scores three goals in one game, he has achieved a “Hat Trick.” When this occurs, as tradition warrants, fans begin tossing their hats on to the ice.

What is not as well known is that during the last few years, America has scored an economic and environmental Hat Trick with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).  CNG is America’s fuel.

GOAL # 1: The Most Competitive and Stable Priced Fuel:
Due to the vast abundance of natural gas in America, the price of CNG offers companies and municpalities a very competitive and stable price for many years.

Depending on location and volume of CNG used by a private or public fleet, the price ranges from less than a $1.00 per gallon for an onsite CNG facility to $2.00 per gallon for a public refueling location.  These low prices will remain stable for years to come and can provide an economic boon for your company and your community.

Unlike gasoline or diesel prices that are often influenced by international events, CNG is natural gas produced here in America.  The day to day price is not impacted by negative world events or anti-American oil cartels. Additionally, the low prices of CNG can easily be protected for the long term – up to seven or more years into the future.

For forward thinking business owners and fleet managers, this means more profit for their companies and the most competitive fuel on the road. For local officials the result is a cost savings to tax payers not to mention the environmental benefits to their communities.

How long will CNG be competitive? In the past, it took newly discovered natural gas fields/reserves many years to bring the gas to the market. From identifying a prospect, securing a lease, drilling, and if successful, building the gathering pipelines to take the gas to market. The same process for new “off shore” discoveries could take 8 to 10 years to bring the gas to market after risking 100’s of millions of dollars. 

Now, with the American shale plays that exist across the United States, the entire process can take as little as 3 months to bring the gas to market.  It’s estimated that American exploration companies have an inventory ready to drill, whenever we need it, that will last one hundred years or more.  In addition, American ingenuity is being replicated in countries throughout the world providing even more natural gas and energy stability.
 
GOAL #2: CNG is a Much Cleaner Fuel
America’s Fuel is much cleaner than diesel and gasoline providing a preferred alternative for our American cities. CNG reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx), one of the main pollutants responsible for our ozone/smog problem.  Replacing one diesel truck with a new CNG truck is equivalent to taking 365 cars off of our roads.
Natural gas is the cleanest burning alternative transportation fuel commercially available today. According to NGV America, exhaust emissions of natural gas vehicles, when compared to those of gasoline and diesel vehicles offer these reductions of common urban pollutants:

• Carbon monoxide (CO) by 70 to 90 percent
• Non-methane organic gas (NMOG) by 50 to 75 percent
• Nitrogen oxides (NOx) by 75 to 95 percent
• Carbon dioxide (CO2) by 20 to 30 percent

CNG produces an estimated 90% less particulates than diesel.  Plus, it contains no mercury or lead and there is no runoff pollution created from spillage.

Even the process of creating CNG is cleaner.  When Diesel and Gasoline are formulated, crude oil is “cooked” or “boiled” at very high temperatures and pressure in refineries producing additional pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, chlorine and benzene.  When natural gas is processed, it is often chilled in cryogenic processing plants to extract liquid hydrocarbons… making it a much cleaner process.   

As a business leader or an elected official, your customers and your constituents will appreciate these clean burning natural gas vehicles driven in their neighborhoods.  

GOAL #3:  CNG Provides Energy Economic Security to America 
CNG is produced here in America and is protected from negative world events.  The vast abundance of natural gas reserves reduces price volatility, is not linked to oil prices, and is not impacted by world markets thus enhancing energy security.

Crude oil is traded on the world oil market making its price subject to world market disruptions and negative price impacts.

OPEC can flood the market (as they have done before and are doing now) and crude oil prices collapse.  On the other hand, after they have bankrupted American competition (and hundreds of thousands of Americans have lost jobs), they cut back supplies (as they have done before) and prices rise. They have been doing this for the past forty years.  As long as American oil prices are vulnerable to world events or a foreign dictator’s impulses, American economic and energy security is at risk.

Given that there are 14 different armies, not including terrorist forces currently fighting in five different war zones in the volatile Middle East, we must ask ourselves “should we choose to wait for the Saudis next geo-political move, a bomb to fall on the wrong location, or an assassin’s bullet to find its target? Or, should we choose America’s Fuel?

Conclusion:
When calculating the price of oil imports, we rarely consider the billions of dollars spent every year for our Army, Air and Naval forces deployed throughout the Middle East protecting oil reserves of countries that are undermining our national interest.  Nor, do we count the blood and treasure lost in the past four decades fighting to protect the “strategic interest” of various Persian Gulf cartel members.  If we utilized more of America’s Fuel, our kids and grandkids would no longer be deployed overseas to implement an outdated ½ century old energy policy that defends rich Saudi Sheiks.

When will we make our “strategic interest” our priority?  Using America’s Fuel, we are creating American jobs for a vital American energy industry.  Do you agree that it is time for America to take control of its own energy security and destiny with America’s Fuel?
